My name is Steve Patterson and I am running for Athens City Council At Large. I have lived in Athens for 13 years working as a professor at Ohio University. I am also a local business advocate, community volunteer and an adult recreation softball coach.
Public service has always been an important part of my life. I served in the United States Air Force for 23 years in both the Enlisted and Commissioned ranks and retired as a Major. Additionally, my wife Connie and I have cultivated relationships with many local businesses through our organic, sustainable farming of hops and peppers.
I am running for City Council At Large because I see a great need to:
- Improve our community's infrastructure (roads and sidewalks) to increase motorist and pedestrian safety (e.g., Richland Ave south of the roundabout, W. Union St., Mill St.)
- Strengthen the relationship between city government, local businesses, the university and the community with regular opportunities for open communication
- Reduce the city's energy consumption expenses with new or improved alternative energy sources
I welcome and encourage your ideas about how we can work together to keep Athens a clean, safe, affordable and environmentally friendly community to live, work and raise a family. Your input is invaluable and will not be taken lightly. Please use my contact information to send me your thoughts and ideas.
